Extra Space Asia is the region’s dominant operator in self-storage solutions. Founded in 2007, our first facility in Singapore changed the way people live and work, by providing professionally managed services, state-of-the-art security, and round-the-clock accessibility for our customers to live bigger and better.

Today, Extra Space has more than 80 facilities with over 27,000 storage units across seven gateway cities – Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo.

Extra Space Boon Keng
Extra Space Asia establishes its first 2 facilities in IMM Building, Singapore and Boon Keng Road, Singapore.
2008
Extra Space Eunos Link
Extra Space Asia opens its 3rd Singapore facility in Eunos Link.
2010
Extra Space Asia opens its 1st Korean facility in Gangnam, Seoul as well and its 4th facility in Marymount Road, Singapore.
2012
Extra Space Asia Chan Sow Lin
Extra Space Asia opens its 1st Malaysian facility in Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur.
2014
2014 Storeasy by Extra Space
Extra Space Asia acquires majority stake in Storeasy in Taiwan, re-branding them as Storeasy by Extra Space with a total of 8 facilities.
 

In addition, Extra Space Asia opens 2 facilities in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, its 5th facility in Singapore at Kallang Way and 2nd Korean facility in Bundang, Seoul.

2015
2015 - Extra Space Sai Wan
Opens the 1st Hong Kong facility in Sai Wan, Hong Kong Island, 3 facilities in Taiwan, 2 facilities in Singapore and the 3rd Korean facility in Gasan, Seoul, bringing its global presence to a total of 24 storage facilities in 3 different countries.
2016
e-valet storage
Extra Space Asia introduces E-station and e-valet storage service, opens 2 facilities in Singapore, the 11th Taiwan facility in Nandong district, Taipei City and the 4th Korean facility in Apgujeong, Seoul.
2017
2017 Executive Storage
Extra Space Asia introduces a new concept – ‘Executive Storage’ at Extra Space Ang Mo Kio, opens the 12th Taiwan’s facility in Xindian district, Taipei and 2nd Hong Kong facility in Hung Hom.
2018
2018 Superbrands
Awarded ‘Singapore’s Favourite Self-storage Brand 2018’; Enters into a strategic venture with ‘Private Box’ in Japan, opening 2 facilities in Tokyo and Kanagawa prefecture. Opens 3 facilities in Taichung and Taipei City, Taiwan and the 5th Korean facility in Yeongdeungpo, Korea.
2019
Awarded ‘Singapore’s Favourite Self-storage Brand 2019’ for the second consecutive year. Opens 1 facility in New Taipei City, 2 facilities in Taipei City, 1 facility in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, 1 facility in Singapore and the 3rd Japan’s facility in Azamino district, Kanagawa prefecture.
2020
Awarded Singapore’s No.1 Self-Storage brand for 3 consecutive years since 2018. Opens 1 facility in Taichung, 1 facility in Taipei City,  1 facility in New Taipei City, 1 facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 2 facilities in Korea, Seoul and 1 facility in Kanagawa prefecture and 3 facilities in Tokyo, Japan.
2021
Awarded Singapore’s No.1 Self-Storage brand for 4 consecutive years since 2018. Opens 2 facilities in Tokyo, Japan, 1 facility in Singapore, 1 facility in Malaysia, 3 facilities in Taipei City, 1 facility in New Taipei City and 1 facility in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
2022
Awarded Singapore’s No.1 Self-Storage brand for 5 consecutive years since 2018. Opens 1 facility in Tokyo, Japan, 1 facility in Malaysia, 4 facilities in Taipei City, 1 facility in New Taipei City and 3 facilities in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Acquired by Dutch pension fund manager APG and Singapore’s CapitaLand Investment.
2023
Awarded Singapore’s No.1 Self-Storage brand for 6 consecutive years since 2018. Open 7 facility in Taiwan.
2024

Extra Space Asia enters into a strategic alliance with Japan’s largest indoor self-storage manager

Extra Space Asia (ESA) has formed a strategic partnership with Ambitious Co. Ltd. (Ambitious), the largest indoor self-storage manager in Japan.  Ambitious’ self-storage business, “Syuno-Pit”, operates 681 self-storage facilities across 126 cities and districts in Japan.

ESA is set to expand its portfolio in CLI’s focus market of Japan by leveraging Ambitious’ strong track record and on-the-ground expertise to source, develop and manage self-storage facilities in Osaka and Tokyo.  These two regions are the largest markets for self-storage in Japan and where Syuno-Pit has the largest presence.  Kickstarting this partnership, ESA has acquired four self-storage facilities in Osaka from Ambitious, with plans to add another two facilities in Tokyo by early 2025.  ESA has a right of first refusal to acquire future assets to be developed by Ambitious.

Together with Keiyo Logistics Co. Ltd. (Keiyo Logistics), ESA’s existing partner in Japan operating under the “privatebox by Extra Space” brand, ESA now benefits from the expertise of two established self-storage managers with extensive networks to boost its growth and deliver exceptional storage solutions in Japan.  Leveraging these dual partnerships for expansion, ESA is targeting investments to triple its self-storage portfolio in the country to over JPY12 billion in the near term.
